There is something to be said for choosing the right name for your kitten. Whether she’s full of personality from the start or she’s a little shy to warm up, you’ll want to take some time to consider the options. You could just choose a name that you like or sounds pretty to you, or you could put some meaning into it. There’s no right or wrong way to name your cat– if there were, we wouldn’t have thousands (or millions) of cats around the world named “Socks” and “Bella”.

Speaking of which, the most popular name for female cats is, in fact, Bella. This is led by a host of other similarly feminine, sweet-sounding names, which we’ll get to shortly. How Do You Choose a Name?

Again, this is going to be more of a personal decision that you make, based on your criteria. As mentioned, some people already have a name in mind, while others will choose something once they get their new kitten. Some of the most common ways that people go about choosing pet names include:

  • A name that means something significant
  • A memorial or tribute name
  • Names that match their personality

If you’ve got a family, you might let the kids choose the name for your new little girl. Maybe it could be a joint family decision. No matter how you go about it, you’ve got no shortage of options out there to choose from. The most important thing is that you choose.

Popular vs. Unique Names

There is something to be said for choosing popular names for your new little kitten. She may be a great fit for the popular name Luna, for example, which is one of the most popular names for boy and girl kittens alike right now. It’s even a popular baby name. You might decide to choose something popular, and that’s fine if that’s what you like. Notice that most of the hot names are single syllables or simple to say, but again, that’s your call.

If you want to get unique, you can go outside of this list and think of whatever you’d like. You can even pick a unique name that has sentimental value that everyone else might not understand. It’s all about what works for you, and more importantly, what name fits your new little girl kitten. She might be sweet, or she might be playful, but her name should be perfectly reflective of her personality.

Now you should have plenty of inspiration to go out and get your little girl named perfectly. You can even give her a few days to get settled into your home and see what fits her best, to ensure that you choose the right name the first time. Whatever you do, don’t settle for another boring name if you want something different, because as you can see, the options are pretty endless.
